Biotone Takes The Guesswork Out Of Aromatherapy!

It’s easy to offer Aromatherapy Massage
with Biotone’s NEW Aromatherapy line!

When I was in school for massage therapy, there weren’t as many options available for what we used as there are now. There were really just the stand by of regular lotion, cream, gel and oil with nothing overly fancy or unique. There are countless options available these days which is a beautiful thing, but it can be overwhelming at times.

Biotone is a household name among massage therapists. It’s what every school I looked at before enrolling was using and every just-graduated therapist who I talk to still tell me it’s what they trained with.
The Biotone line is extensive to say the least, and it is always growing. We recently added the aromatherapy lotion line, and it’s been nothing short of a home run. Combining essential oils for specific purposes (and catchy names to remember them by) with luxurious butters and oils, this may be one of their most popular lines yet. Take a look:
Aromatherapy Massage Lotion – Serenity / Lavender Orange Clary Sage ( I can’t wait to try this! Clary Sage has always been a favorite of my clients)
Aromatherapy Massage Lotion – Bliss / Bergamont Rosewood Sweet Orange ( if you’ve ever smelled bergamont, you’ll know why this one is named bliss!)
There you have it…no more wondering what oils to add to lotions or messing around with the amounts! All you need is a pump and some bottles!

Dare To Be Bare! – Skin Care Tips for Your Best Waxing Results

Waxing is huge this time of year and you want to make sure that you are doing all the necessary prepping and skin care before and after all your waxing services for the perfect wax!

First, you want to make sure the skin is clean. When a client comes in with oil, sweat, and bacteria on their skin, without proper sanitation, the client can easily break out after waxing and the end result will not be as successful. Preparation is simple. A great product to use would be the Cirepil Blue Lotion. This lotion has excellent cleansing properties due to its low alcohol content (9%), and it leaves the skin with a pleasant, comfortable feeling. After cleansing the skin, the Cirepil Pre-Depilatory Oil is a great product to use, as it will condition the skin and create a protective barrier to ensure wax adheres to the hair and not the skin.

Another great item to use during the prepping stage would be the Relax & Wax NO Scream Cream. Your clients will want to apply this cream 30-45 minutes prior to the waxing service, making NO Scream Cream the perfect retail item to sell to all of your regular waxing clients! The No Scream Cream eases the discomfort of waxing as much as 50-90% and will not interfere with standard wax formulas.

Pre-Wax Products

Now you’re ready to wax! Once you have performed the waxing service, don’t forget about post wax care! This is very important for your clients’ overall comfort after the service, as well as for the best results. A product I highly recommend is the Mancine Ingrown(zone) Triple Action Post Depilatory Lotion. This lotion leaves the skin feeling refreshed and moisturized, prevent ingrown hairs, and will actually slow and soften future hair growth so waxing becomes easier and more comfortable. Also, for your clients who are prone to ingrown hairs, the Mancine Ingrown(zone) Cream works wonders as a spot treatment!

Post-Wax Products

It is also very important to educate your clients about what to AVOID for the next 24 hours after the waxing service:

Avoid for 24 hours after waxing service:

  • Sun/Tanning Beds
  • Makeup, if face is waxed
  • Swimming – Chlorinated Water (pool water) and Salt Water
  • Hot Water, Saunas
  • Deodorant with Aluminum
  • Salt Glow or stimulating body or facial treatments
  • Tight Clothing for legs/bikini (No Pantyhose) for 48 hours
  • Exercise

Also, recommend that the client exfoliate (starting 2 days after service) to help avoid ingrown hairs. A really great exfoliating product is the Desert Mineral Detox Body Scrub – Anti-Cellulite Formula by Extended Vacation. Many of our clients also like to retail Exfoliating Massage Gloves or Loofahs to their clients to help minimize ingrown hairs!

Happy Waxing! =)

So Long Ombre.. Hello Balayage!

The ombre trend has definitely faded, but there’s a new highlighting trend in town! Say hello to balayage, a popular highlighting technique that’s gathering a lot of attention, especially for Spring and Summer. Instead of the dramatic, contrasting colors that ombre provides, balayage is a subtle, more natural sun-kissed look. Balayage is actually a french word meaning “to swoop” or “to paint,” which creates a softer, beautiful and almost all-natural look. With summer rapidly approaching, a lot of your clients are going to want lighter hair… especially since celebrities like Lana Del Rey and Khloe Kardashian have been seen sporting it!

But are you prepared for the balayage trend? Here at Pure Spa Direct, we just got in the ColorTrak Tools Balayage Board and Brush Set that will have you all set up for this latest hair trend. This brush contains shorter brush bristles for precise coloring, as well as a slightly curved board on 2 side to better suit head shape! You’ll also be quite comfortable performing this service, as the handle allows for stability.

You’ll also need to protect each highlight! Check out our film roll which is specifically for balayage treatments. For all of your salon highlighting needs, please click here, and make sure you’re prepared this summer for your clients looking to get that sun-kissed balayage look!

Just a Fraction of Coconut Oil, Please!

If you haven’t noticed our Just Added section of our site yet, you’re definitely missing out! We are constantly adding new products each day, and I love seeing the latest offerings we have. My new favorite that we just got in is our Fractionated Coconut Oil by Soothing Touch. I know that coconut oil is definitely a craze that’s gained quite the popularity over the past years in the beauty industry, but did you know that there are two different types? I’m sure you’re used to using products that contain virgin coconut oil. Have you heard of fractionated coconut oil? It’s exactly how it sounds, but with even more beautifying benefits! I’ll explain why below!..

Fractionated coconut oil is processed differently than regular coconut oil. The reason being is that the oil has been through hydrolysis then steam distilled to remove the long chain triglycerides. As a result, only the medium chain triglycerides are left which makes for a highly saturated oil. This means the oil is even more abundant in antioxidants and its natural disinfecting effects! Unlike virgin coconut oil, which solidifies in colder temperatures, fractionated coconut oil remains in liquid form. This is great for use as a massage oil, and to blend with essentials oils or even for use in handmade lotions and soaps. Another plus is that this type of oil has a longer shelf life and stability which makes it cost effective for your business.

If you’re in need of a new oil for your spa, I highly recommend trying out our Soothing Touch Fractionated Massage Coconut Oil on your clients! It is paraben free and unscented so you can customized the oil to whichever scent your client prefers. Unlike virigin coconut oil, this oil does not leave a greasy feel either. I promise your clients will love it!

CND VINYLUX Polish Review & Troubleshooting

Cake Pop #135

I have been vacillating on whether or not to post my review on this polish. I had very high hopes for Vinylux. The color selection is beautiful, and the application was a breeze, but 11 hours after I shot these photos of my manicure I noticed a hole in one of my nails. It appeared that I brushed against something and it took a chunk clean out of my polish, there was just a hole in the middle of my nail polish. We were shopping at Home Depot that day for plants, so maybe it got banged up there? Either way, after potting one plant and doing some very light gardening, the polish on my thumbs had receded – badly.

My Vinylux manicure was so banged up after only 24 hours that I removed it! All the girls here at Pure Spa have been using several different colors, and they all have had different experiences to report. The bottom line is the same with any manicure; if you are rough on your hands – expect a roughed up manicure, even with Vinylux in my opinion. This is only to put expectations into perspective as some clients thought this was going to be a gel like wear polish… when in fact it is just a polish. Now, I want to point out some useful tips that I think will be helpful for maximizing Vinylux polish applications & success.

Don’t lay it on too thick!

Troubleshooting VINYLUX:

1) No Basecoat, no exceptions. I know of some die hard Rejuvacote users that want to continue using this treatment under Vinylux. NO BASE COAT – no exceptions. A base coat will negate the performance of Vinylux and the adhesives that are in the polish color.

2) Follow CND’s P.E.P protocol*. What is P.E.P?:

P-erform Mini Manicure = Removing the Cuticle off the nail plate
E-liminate Surface Contaminants = ScrubFresh
P-Purify Nail Plate = ScrubFresh

* Anyone I spoke to that had problems with Vinylux longevity did NOT follow the PEP step!

Always cap the edges!

3) Cap the free edge. This helps in ANY manicure. But especially since Vinylux is being marketed to consumers, they will need to know that this step helps chips and polish receding.

4) Not too thick. Apply two, controlled coats – don’t cake it on. My longest lasting manicures are meticulously applied by my manicurist using controlled, thin strokes of polish. I tend to go a little thick on my applications, which most likely led to chipping – like in this case.

5) Stay dry and let it dry. I once read it is best not to get your nails wet for at least 5 hours after a manicure. So get your Purell handy and leave your nails alone to cure. Drying time for Vinylux is approx. 10 minutes.

Follow these steps and you will get a great 7 days out of your Vinylux polish.
