|NEON – Do you offer it?|
Your nail clients will want neon shades, and they will want them ALL! I walked into Sephora yesterday and in the center of the store was a newly erected display of neon polishes. This huge 360 display of bright and beautiful colors had shoppers of all ages mesmerized. The display was mobbed, and I was fighting my way through the crowd to see them for myself. These LOUD and obnoxious shades of summer were tempting and irresistible until one by one we all began to realize these trendy hues were selling at $14 each! Being that the popular trend is to use 2-3 different colors on each hand, this was turning people away. One woman commented, “I don’t need to buy $42 bucks of these polishes, I’ll just get a manicure – I am sure they have these colors at my salon!”. Well let’s hope so! I think it is wise for salons and spas to closely follow the trends set forth in media, fashion and big retail. Neon is trending, and you can’t escape it, it’s everywhere!! Thumbing through look books from Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and Saks this week I spotted the neon trend in accessories, clothing, shoes, and nails!
So make sure your salon has a great selection of neons for your fashion forward clients. This 216 piece display from Color Club boasts a great price as well as a great selection of the top neon colors of the season, at a fabulous price. Your cost is approx. $1.62 each, low enough so that you can set the suggested retail price to be attractive to clients ($5 – $6) and still make a great profit. 18 great neon shades to choose from!
Available only to licensed beauty professionals at PureSpa.com!

Happy Friday! Hope everyone had a fun and successful week!
The product of the week (and a new favorite of mine!), is the Abrasion-Free Peeling Liquid Facial System. If you haven’t yet heard of this game changing type of facial, or are familiar with the rather expensive alternative, now is the perfect time to take a look.
A major reason this has become one of the hottest new trends is how gentle it is while remaining effective. As effective as microdermabrasion, yet gentle enough to use on all skin types and ethnicity. Instead of blasting the face with crystals (or diamond burs), this uses only liquids.
What does this mean for your clients? No down time, no bruising and immediate results. Immediate results – your clients will see and feel a difference after ONE treatment. This results in packages for your business and glowing clients.
The Aqua Bella combines powerful vacuum technology and adjustable pulsation within a robust, excellent quality system for superior infusion results. Adjustable vacuum-massage allows cleansing and hydrating solutions to consistently unclog and gently cleanse pores, aqua-foliate dead skin cells, and extract keratin, sebum, blackheads, or other impurities. Simultaneously, the hydrolyzed treatment tips smoothly glide across the skin, dispersing and infusing solutions where the skin cells are regenerating.
One of my favorite things about this – extractions are less painful! Simply turn the suction up on the machine to extract! No more painful tools or pinching!
If you want to take your facials and business to the next level in the new year, hit the ground running with this portable powerhouse!
Have a great weekend!

Everyone loves Shark Week, even the Ritz Carlton!
I was recently reading this article about the Ritz Carlton in Ft. Lauderdale, who debuted a special “Shark Week” menu to commemorate the popular Discovery Channel event! Tatiana Lora, director of public relations, said: “We are offering ocean-inspired therapies and a special Shark Week spa treatment menu that guests can book.”
Featuring adorable services such as the “Starfish and Sand Pedicure,” the “Sea-Toxifying Massage,” and the “Under the Sea Wrap,” this special menu is available all month long, and the proceeds will be donated to the University of Miami’s Shark Research and Conservation Program.
Since there are special “holidays” for just about everything at this point (today is Fresh Breath Day!), you can take a note from the Ritz’s book and create a special menu at any time of the year! What are some of your favorite fun holidays to cook up new services for?

Do your regular clients come in for their manicures complaining of their nails breaking in between services? (I am definitely guilty of this!) Well, nail care goes way beyond the salon and it is important for you to inform them on how to properly take care of their nails outside of their regular manicure services. By educating them and offering products/items they can use at home, you will find yourself with a lot more happier clients that keep coming back!
Some tips for preventing nail breakage:
- We all know biting our nails is just a bad habit, but it is also very detrimental to your nails! It leaves the nails thin and weak and they are more likely to get caught on other surfaces and break due to the jagged and uneven edges. When informing your clients of this, offer to apply nail art, which will discourage them for wanting to bite off the fun designs! =)
- Make sure to keep your retail area stocked full of buffers and fine-grain grit files for your clients to use at home. In between services, your clients nails are going to grow and nails grow unevenly and can cause weakness in some spots. Remember to let them know to file in ONE direction. (filing in both directions will tear the nails)
- Keeping the nails painted at all times, whether it regular polish, gel polish, or hard gel will keep the nails thicker, making it more resistant against breakage. Also, inform your clients to not pick at the polish or gel polish, as this will cause the nails to become weak.
- Use nail strengthening treatments as a base coat or top coat!
- Keep nails strong and hydrated with cuticle oil. use it during the services and suggest they use it at home every day as well. This is another item you’ll definitely want to keep fully stocked in your retail area. Quick and easy up-sell to your clients!
- Constantly washing hands can dry them out. Let your client know to always apply lotions after they have washed their hands and to try and avoid getting their hands wet when doing dishes or cleaning. Its a great idea to retail the hand lotion you use on your clients during manicures and let them know they can purchase it as well!
With these simple tips, you are sure to see less and less nail breakage from your clients! =)
