Old School Cool: Dr. Bronner’s Multi-Use Soap

When performing aesthetic services, you go out of your way to ensure that you use the only the finest and most effective products on your clients. The goal is not only to provide an excellent service, but also immediate gratification with smoother skin, finer lines, and reduced puffiness. Unfortunately, you cannot always be there to ensure that your clients are taking care of their skin at home to the same degree that you do in your aesthetic services.

A fantastic product line to retail to your clients and help guide them towards taking care of their skin is the Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap Skin Care Line. Unlike most of the commercial brands of soaps that you clients will find in their local drug stores, all of the Dr. Bronner’s soaps are formulated with pure and organic ingredients. Plus, they are completely devoid of all of the harsh chemicals, parabens, preservatives and dyes that most products contain today.
As a personal testimonial, I am completely obsessed with Dr. Bronner’s Organic Castile Liquid Lavender Soap. I have always been on a constant quest to find the best shower gel, shampoo, soap etc. The search has been fun but it is no longer possible for me to use any other soap out there. I use the liquid lavender as a shower gel – the lather is completely luxurious – shampoo, shaving cream and even laundry detergent. The Peppermint Liquid Soap is also fantastic to use as a toothpaste!

Pellon versus Muslin: What You Don’t Know May Be Hurting Clients

When helping clients place orders for waxing strips, the essential questions we always ask are, ‘Pellon or Muslin?’ and ‘Non-woven or woven?’ Unfortunately, so many hair removal technicians are not aware of the differences between the fabrics, so I am here to help enlighten you!

Muslin is the go-to woven fabric for waxing. It’s woven nature makes it the strongest waxing strip you can buy, but it is important to note that it can be too strong for certain areas. Muslin works well with eyebrows, lips and legs, however, I know all too well from personal experience that muslin is too aggressive to use on the bikini area, arms and underarms.
Pellon is, hands-down, the most popular fabric used for waxing strips. It is non-woven, so it pulls the hair out, but is significantly more forgiving than muslin. What makes Pellon tricky to use for certain waxing services is its lack of flexibility. Pellon has the same feeling as construction paper, so it is difficult to maneuver and form to the bendable areas, such as the Bikini area.

A happy medium between Muslin and Pellon is the Epillyss Cotton Waxing Roll. It has the flexibility of Pellon and a strong enough grip that will effectively remove hair without as much pain.
What types of products do you find to be most effective for depilatory services?

Hydro Packs – The Ultimate Hydrocollator Heat Therapy Accessory

While speaking with a client a few days ago, the topic of Hydrocollators came up. For those who are not familiar, Hydrocollators are units made to heat up specially-designed moist heat packs used for sports therapy and spa treatments. They are like standard neck and back wraps on steroids.

The steam heat packs do not automatically come with a cover, so many people end using laying towels as a barrier for the service. The problem with this method, however, is that it is not the most efficient use of heat, plus, towels can become expensive to launder.
Fortunately, for the previously mentioned client and
all potential Hydrocollator clients, Pure Spa carries Terry Covers for the Hydro Packs. Not only are they made of terry cloth, but also feature a velcro fastener and 2 polyurethane foam-filled layers that help to retain heat and provide extra insulation for your client.

Achieve the Impossible: Mix Oil and Water with Water-Soluble Essential Oils!

A really great way to take hot towel treatments to the next level would be to add a few drops of essential oil to each towel. Whenever people inquire about towels, or even hot towel cabis, we always recommend that they consider purchasing a bottle of Lavender or Eucalyptus essential oil to help add a stimulating or relaxing effect to the towels.

However, a client of ours recently brought up that her towels were not maintaining the fragrance she wanted for her clients. Instead of absorbing into the towels, essential oils actually sit on top of the water and roll off. The solution? Water-soluble Essential Oil!
Oil and water naturally repel each other and are next to impossible to mix, but water-soluble essential oil is different. It has been specially formulated to mix with water and, therefore, absorbs into your hot (or cold) towels, resulting in an easy yet luxurious treatment for every client! These essential oils are also not just for your towels, either! You can use them with:
    • Facial Steamers
    • Pedicure Baths
    • Hydrocollators
    • Steam Rooms
    • Hydrotherapy Treatments
What scents would you like to use with these treatments?

Paraffin Liner Bags: The Sanitary Alternative for the Must-Have Fall/Winter Treatment

Once again, ’tis the season for paraffin services! As the weather gets colder and the heat gets turned up in homes and offices, you will be seeing more and more clients with dry, cracked skin coming in for services.

A common question that we receive from clients is, ‘How do I keep my paraffin treatments sanitary?!’ While I, personally, am not a germaphobe in any sense of the word, I cannot help but cringe at the thought of dipping my hands or feet into the same paraffin wax that countless other clients have used as well.
A great alternative to multi-dipping in the paraffin bath

is to use Paraffin Liners for the hands and feet. Simply scoop a ladel-full of paraffin wax and pour into the paraffin bag. Next, have your client place his or her hand or foot into the bag, then gently and evenly massage the paraffin into the skin.
The paraffin will harden in the same it would have if it was double and triple-dipped, plus the removal process is easier, faster and mess-free! Click Here to see our most popular and convenient Paraffin Bag option: Pop-Up Paraffin Liners / 100 Bag Roll by FantaSea!

Size Does Matter! – Choosing the Best Spa Headbands for Your Clients

As a person with long, curly and frizzy hair, I have always experienced the challenge of keeping my hair out of my face. 99% of the time, you will see me wearing a ponytail or bun with a headband just to make it go away. So naturally, this problem is also experienced during my spa services.

When you purchase headbands for your clients, the goal, of course is to keep the hair back from their face and make your job easier. But how do you choose an appropriate headband? With so many styles, sizes and fabrics, how are you supposed to choose?
Well, good news – I did the research for you! The 2 features that have held true through all my trials are as follows:
    1. The wider the better.
When the headband has a greater width, the chance of it sliding

back and irritating both you and your client significantly decreases. It is so annoying to wear a styled headband that always slides back. The same holds true with spa headbands. Fortunately, this isn’t about fashion – it’s about comfort!
    2. Fabrics feel so much nicer than disposables.
While the disposable headbands may seem more sanitary, all you need to do is thoroughly wash each band to ensure it is acceptable for your clients’ use. While cost-effective, many of the disposable headbands look cheap and can feel itchy. I think we can all agree that microfiber, terry and velour are significantly more comfortable than a paper hybrid. No 2 people have the same size head, so disposable headbands will never fit all of your clients the same. Many of the fabric headbands have either Velcro or snaps, thus making a custom fit to each head.
Our selection of Spa Headbands is endless, but you can click HERE for Fabric Options and HERE for our most popular disposables.
What type of headbands do you currently use in your spa? How are they working out?
