Summer Scalp Treatment!

Many people tend to forget about their scalp/top of the head when it comes to summer sun care. Here is a great treatment for clients who may be dealing with dry, itchy scalps to help provide some cooling relief:

In a rubber mixing bowl, mix together 1 tablespoon fine dead sea salt, 1 tablespoon wheatgerm oil, 5 drops peppermint essential oil and 4 drops of tea tree essential oil. Place the bowl in a mud warmer or hot towel cabinet to keep warm until ready to use.

Shampoo and rinse, give a light towel dry and apply the warmed mixture to the scalp. Gently massage the scalp for about 10 minutes. Remove with a light shampoo and rinse – that’s it!

Simple, effective and cooling!

Benefits of Peppermint

Peppermint is one of the most popular essential oils used! It is known for treating all types of digestive issues, but its benefits do not end there.

It is fresh, bright, penetrating, and historically can alleviate symptoms of shock. Mentally, it helps alleviate feelings of inferiority and insecurity and can deepen any intuitive insight. Making it a great fit in wellness centers, specifically Reiki healing sessions.

Peppermint is phenomenal when used with a facial steamer. It deeply cleanses and decongests the skin. Because the skin is softened the dead skin cells are easier to remove. It is especially beneficial for acne because of its antiseptic properties.

Pro tip: Purchase a sample felt fabric from a craft store and simply place pieces of felt in front of the steamer nozzle with the oil of your choice to make any steamer an aromatherapy steamer!

Glass Bottles for Precious Oils

Store Your Lotions & Potions

I love estheticians that mix their own proprietary potions for facial treatments. Some of the most sought after appointments here in New York are with facialists that are well know for their signature blends they mix for their clients’ skin.

Essential oil blends need to be stored in glass bottles to preserve efficacy. That is why I think that these new hand blown glass bottles with stoppers are perfect for treatment room decor and essential oil blends for your special clients. In addition to holding blends, I think these would be great for holding a few teaspoons of Jojoba oils, Coconut oils or Massage Blends, perfect for scalp and decollete massages during facials.

Extracts, Oils & Blends
All Available @ Purespa.com

Just like your client’s skin, each bottle is completely unique and different, with it own shape, dimensions and color. Each bottle is approximately 3.5″ in height. Qty: 1 bottle (not 3).

It would also be nice to use for aromatherapy. My facialist always waves a bottle of eucalyptus, rosemary or lavender EO under my nose to commence and end a facial. Put a few drops into these bottles and have clients BREATHE in…

What a beautiful and vivid display of color in your facial room! Liven up your space!

Essential Oils for Oily Skin

Many people believe that they need to treat oily, acne prone skin with strong treatments, which strips and remove all oils from the skin. This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Aromatherapy treatments are aimed at balancing and reducing sebum productions. Just like traditional anti-acne products oils contain anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and soothing compounds. They are also packed with things like antioxidants and vitamins which are especially healing and protective.

Essential oils that are beneficial for oily skin include;

  • geranium
  • lavender
  • cedarwood
  • palmarosa
  • niaouli
  • juniper berry
  • tea tree
  • ylang-ylang
  • cypress
  • grapefruit
  • bergamot
  • myrtle

Pro Tip: finish a treatment with flower water that’s targeted for oily skin. These include verbena water, witch hazel, orange flower water, and cornflower water.

A Great Add On Service To Help Your Clients Slim Down!

Many people have a sweet tooth, others (like myself) have a full mouth of them. Not giving in to those cravings for sweets can be a difficult thing for some people and any help is appreciated.

I was a bit surprised to find out that an essential oil can aid in stopping those food cravings, especially sweets.

Grapefruit essential oil is one of the less common essential oils that can be a great money maker for your business.

It has been shown to be an uplifting and energizing scent and also referred to as the “dieter’s friend” in the essential oil world.

The ways of adding this into your treatment menu are endless and can be altered to your particular specialty!

It can be used in a carrier oil to perform a facial massage or dab a few drops onto a cotton pad and have your client breathe it in while performing a mani/pedi, hair or body treatment. It can be added to shampoo to utilize it’s aromatherapy benefits and it can help with oily scalp and hair issues.

To enhance the benefits of this oil, it is recommended to advise clients to have the treatment about 20 minutes before they eat and to drink water after the treatment; which is essential for the skin and hair.

An inexpensive product with an incredible potential to increase revenue in any business in the industry!
