Essential Oils for Oily Skin

Many people believe that they need to treat oily, acne prone skin with strong treatments, which strips and remove all oils from the skin. This couldn’t be further from the truth!

Aromatherapy treatments are aimed at balancing and reducing sebum productions. Just like traditional anti-acne products oils contain anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and soothing compounds. They are also packed with things like antioxidants and vitamins which are especially healing and protective.

Essential oils that are beneficial for oily skin include;

  • geranium
  • lavender
  • cedarwood
  • palmarosa
  • niaouli
  • juniper berry
  • tea tree
  • ylang-ylang
  • cypress
  • grapefruit
  • bergamot
  • myrtle

Pro Tip: finish a treatment with flower water that’s targeted for oily skin. These include verbena water, witch hazel, orange flower water, and cornflower water.

Essential Oils for More than Just Fragrance

I made it all the way to almost the middle of April during one of the worst flu seasons we’ve ever seen without getting sick. I really, really thought I was in the clear! But alas, a cold hit me and hit me hard. So first – apologies to any clients who have had to listen to my sniffling on the phone this week!

However hard this cold hit me, it is clearing up incredibly quickly. How you ask? I have been diligent about my hydration, subsisting on chicken broth, tea, and water for several days, catching up on rest, and as well as focusing on aromatherapy in my home and at work.

Wait, what? YES – I said aromatherapy! I did my research and learned about essential oils that are best for sickness, and I have been diligently diffusing them (mostly in hopes to not only feel better myself but also to keep my husband and children from also catching the cold of the century!)

What does this mean for you? Well, first – as much as we want to hope it, we are not yet out of the woods of “cold and flu” season. Which means you might have clients – or employees – spreading germs around. To help them feel better, and to keep the spread of germs at bay, you might want to consider attacking the air with some of the best anti-illness essential oils around! Check out some of our most popular illness-fighting essential oils below:

Tea Tree Essential Oil
Tea tree oil is naturally antibacterial, antimicrobial, antiseptic, and antiviral. Can’t beat that!

Pine Essential Oil
Pine essential oil helps clear nasal passages. If you have a client who is stuffed up, this is a knockout to help!

Lavender Essential Oil
Lavender is not only calming, but it also has antiseptic and antimicrobial properties. Bring on the relaxation while combatting germs!

Eucalyptus Essential Oil
Eucalyptus is not only antiviral but also acts as a decongestant. Sick or not, Eucalyptus helps open up the nasal passages and creates a warm and inviting atmosphere for any of your clients!

Which of these essential oils are you currently using? Which do you want to try?

Create your own Spa Treatments with Spa Pantry!

A little experimentation will always help in the Spa industry. Mixing and matching certain butters, creams and oils will be the craze at your spa…if you get it right. For instance, something as basic as mixing Spa Pantry’s Whipped Cocoa butter and Body Concepts Aloe Vera will give you a creation that you can use as part of your services!

By mixing these two items you get a great moisturizer with so many benefits.
Aloe Vera:
  • contains antioxidants vitamins A, C and E which calms the skin from irritation an inflammation
  • helps with dermatitis or psoriasis
  • it helps with wound healing
Mixed with the cocoa butter, you will have a fast-absorbing mixture that retains body moisture and softens the skin. The reason for this is that cocoa butter melts at body temperature, so the moment of application is the moment the skin will absorb the product. Cocoa butter leaves a protective barrier that will help protect the skin from the harm of everyday life.
You can even use this product as part of your massage services. Research has indicated that massaging the skin with cocoa butter can help boost the immune system and relieve stress. I wouldn’t mind getting a massage with this lotion. Along with all of the topical benefits of mixing these to items together is the benefit of using it for aromatherapy, the sweet smelling aroma will definitely add to the massage experience.
Be bold and experiment, Cocoa Butter and Aloe Vera are just two items you can experiment with. Visit Pure Spa Direct to see what other items we have for you to use for your secret recipe.

All-Natural Massage – Santa Barbara Massage Creams

If you’re looking for something new and natural to bring to your massage services, the Santa Barbara Massage Creams are perfect for you! It has all the benefits of olive oil, bees wax, and coconut oil, mixed with the healing properties of essential oils. This massage cream offers a nice resistance that allows the therapist to penetrate deeply into the tissues for deep tissue style massages, but its smooth and luxurious feel makes it perfect for lighter Swedish styles. Only a small amount is needed, so the container lasts a long time and it won’t leave your clients feeling oily afterwards. The Santa Barbara Massage Cream comes in four different scents, as well as unscented. This is really great if you like to use natural products and also like to incorporate aromatherapy into your services!

Benefits:

  • Olive Oil: Used by the ancient Greeks because of its healing properties and effects on the skin.
  • Bees Wax: Makes it so you only have to use a little, and clients do not end the session feeling oily. This is what turns the cream into a solid when it is in the jar.
  • Coconut Oil: What gives the cream an excellent glide while maintaining a good resistance for deeper work.

Scents:

  • Lavender: Balancing, soothing, and calming. It eases the appearance of wrinkles, helps prevent scarring, and relieves muscle pain and headaches.
  • Ylang Ylang and Orange: Sedating. Counters depression, anger, and fear. This cream is good for problem skin.
  • Clary Sage and Lavender: Eases muscles tightness, reduces nervous tension, and eliminates mental fatigue. Eases the appearance of wrinkles and helps prevent scarring. Relieves muscle pain and headaches.
  • Eucalyptus: Stimulating, invigorating, refreshing, and reduces fatigue and tension.
