Essential Oils – With an Emphasis on Essential!

Ah, essential oils – probably one of my favorite spa products out there! But what makes them so great? I love how each individual oil can be used for various soothing and supposedly curative effects. While essential oils are “essential” in the sole reason that they contain the “essence” of the plant’s fragrance of which they’re derived from, it is important to note that different oils have different properties. Certain oils are essential for various types of aliments! Do you have enough essentials for all types of clients, especially those who receive deep tissue massages? If not, I’ve got you covered. See below for what I mean, and why these “essential” oils take on a whole new meaning!

Most your clients probably sit throughout the day and then cram their exercise into one quick session. This can cause excess strain on their muscles, causing spasms and inflammation. While massages definitely help to ease the pain, certain essential oils can facilitate healing as well according to an article I recently read.

Reduce Inflammation

We carry any essential oil you might need here at Pure Spa Direct. However, some are more popular than others due to their aroma and abilities to aid in soothing inflamed muscles. Peppermint is great for your clients with inflamed and overheated muscles, as it has a cooling effect. Rosemary also reduces inflammation due to its astringent properties. This can help stimulate circulation and increase blood flow to the muscles, bringing down inflammation. We have a variety of peppermint and rosemary essential oils to choose from!

Warm Muscles

While peppermint has a cooling effect, other oils have a heating effect. Juniper and ginger oils tend to warm overworked muscles. They contain natural analgesics which can help to block pain – perfect for your clients who are athletes and looking for a deep tissue massage!
Relax Muscles

Did you know that April is Stress Awareness Month? It’s a good chances that your clients who are stressed out have tighter muscles. Both chamomile and lavender essential oils can help calm down your clients who are extra stressed and hold tension in their muscles. They are personally my favorite, as I love their scent.
Click here to see all of our essential oils, and stock up on what your missing to help your clients in need. They are also perfect for retailing to your clients after each session!

Ayurveda: A Beauty Regimen That’s 5,000 Years Old!

…and still applicable! Ayurveda is a nearly 5,000 year old science, and one of the earliest adopters of the mantra that “beauty comes from within.” This practice focuses on balancing the whole body to enhance beauty and even optimize energy!

The Ayurvedic approach to caring for the skin starts with knowing your dosha. There are three doshas:

Vata
This type of skin is thin, dry, fine, and extremely delicate. Their skin is dry, cold to the touch and is not smooth. They are prone to premature wrinkling, especially since they are sun worshippers and tend to be the ones with the darkest tan on the beach. Many different factors disturb vata including stress, excess activity such as aerobics or constant travel, improper diet, the season of autumn, and especially an irregular routine.

Pitta
This type of skin is susceptible to breakouts and rosacea. They have combination skin with sensitivities to various allergens, and are most sensitive to the sun. A few of the things that cause the skin get out of balance are stress, over working, excess mental activity, improper diet, hot sunny weather, and the summer season.

Kapha
This type of skin is thicker, oilier, and prone to acne. Some of the causes of a kapha imbalance consist of not enough activity or exercise, improper diet, cold winter weather, and seclusion.

Thinking about incorporating this age old principle into your spa? We have an amazing selection of Ayurvedic products to choose from! From skincare lines, to Copper Shirodhara stands, we could help you bring this new (but very old!) way of beauty into your spa! Take a look at the items we carry below:

Not All Salts are Created Equal!

Salt has gained such a bad rep over the past few decades. This is largely because of commercial table salt that we see everywhere which can cause heart and health problems when consumed excessively! The good news is there’s a salt out there that is actually good for you and can help enhance your clients’ skin and overall beauty.

Himalayan Sea Salt has been gaining popularity over the last few years, and for good reason! This type of salt is packed with 84 different minerals and naturally contain iodine. Compared to table salt, which is stripped of iodine and vital minerals, Himalayan sea salt is used for detoxification, muscle relaxation, and even sinus issues! Does your spa have any products containing it? You might want to consider getting on this latest trend to help enhance your massage, pedicure, and even facial treatments!

We have a variety of Himalayan Sea Salt products here at Pure Spa Direct. Check out my favorites below!

How adorable are these Himalayan Salt Massage Stones Hearts?! These massage stones are derived of salt crystals from an ancient primal sea beneath the Himalayan Mountains are hand-carved into massage stones that gently soothe away an accumulation of stress, tension and pollutants. Your clients will love them!

Are you in need of more decor in your spa? Our Himalayan Salt Pyramid Lamp is made with the white salt and has a beautiful natural wood base for an elegant touch. You might want to consider retailing these to your clients as well!

Improve Circulation This Winter with Arnica

Poor circulation is common during the cold winter months, and I’m sure many of your clients complain about it this time of year. Are you looking for more ways to take this common complaint into consideration at your spa this winter? While the average massage service can most certainly help, you can take it one step further by incorporating the herb arnica into your massage treatments. According to a recent article I read, arnica works with the body9s own system and helps to dispose of waste as well as increase circulation. In order for your clients to receive the maximum benefit from arnica, all you need to do is apply a small amount, about one or two drops of concentrated oil, to the desired area, followed by massage with your favorite cream. We have arnica oil here at Pure Spa Direct, as well as massage creams! Click here to browse our arnica collection, and help keep your clients’ circulation balanced this winter!

Time to Shed that Summer Skin!

Fall is coming up, and with a new season usually comes new retail products. But is your business prepared for the upcoming months? I came across an interesting article on the many benefits of at home dry brushing that your clients will love! Summer is over, and I’m sure they are looking for a quick fix to literally shed their dry, sun-kissed summer skin. Don’t get me wrong, who doesn’t love a summer glow? But the sun can cause a lot of damage to the skin, so it’s best for them to exfoliate and renew their skin cells and prepare for the cooler months ahead. Aside from exfoliating the skin for a natural glow, dry brushing also contributes to healthier muscle tone, and better distribution of fat deposits, and even breaks down cellulite with continued use. Who wouldn’t want that?!

Our Natural Bristle Brush has been selling out every month! It’s best for your clients to use bristles made form natural materials, as nylon or synthetic materials can damage the skin. It’s also best to choose a brush with a long handle for your clients to reach their back or other hard to reach spots. We have a Value MEGA pack of 72 Contour Body Brushes with a handle that are perfect for those harder areas! It’s best to stock up, because I know these tend to sell out fast!

Beauty Trends: Charcoal!

I recently came across an interesting article on the latest Beauty Trends of 2015. One trend on the list in particular that I was surprised to see make the cut is charcoal! I’m sure you don’t automatically associate charcoal with beauty, but this carbon residue actually has a plethora of beautifying benefits for the skin. Here’s why!

Often made from bamboo, charcoal helps to absorbs toxins and other impurities from the skin, which in turn helps to keep it clean and free from harmful substances. While soap tends to leave a residue, charcoal has natural ingredients which can be beneficial to the skin’s barrier. Charcoal works like a magnet on the skin, attracting toxins and dirt which leaves the skin clean and glowing!

If you’re in need of a new service to add to your clients, why not get on this latest beauty trend? We have an amazing Charcoal Collagen Mask that also contains marine collagen, which increases hydration and preserves healthy skin. It’s a win-win situation for both you and your clients – trendy, purifying, and youth-defying – a great facial service for your spa!
